The village adjoins Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, a 4,000 acre destination featuring streams, waterfalls, hiking trails, and stunning views of the Peñasquitos and Lopez Canyons. There are numerous community parks found around the village, giving residents of all ages plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Facilities here include playgrounds, sports fields, swimming pools, picnic areas, and many more. Tennis courts and tennis lessons are available at the Rancho Peñasquitos Tennis Center,and skating bowls and skating rinks can be found at the Rancho Peñasquitos Skate Park.  The village is served by the Poway Unified School District, which has been ranked the #4 Best Public School Districts in California by Niche.com. A location of Palomar College is found in the community.  For shopping and dining, residents typically go to Rancho Peñasquitos Town Center and Plaza Rancho Peñasquitos, as well as the many retail destinations in neighboring Carmel Mountain Ranch.
