Perched on plateaus or “mesas” in eastern San Diego County, La Mesa offers gorgeous views of the city below as well as of the surrounding hills and mountains. The majestic Mount Helix is found in La Mesa, and conquering its heights is one of the best things to do in the city. You can drive to the summit and take in the glorious views from there, or you can take a more adventurous route and hike your way to the top.  One of the highest points in San Diego, Mount Helix offers some of the best sunset views in the entire Southern California region. A little further down the slope, Mt. Helix Park serves as a scenic venue for concerts, live performances, and events like art camps and yoga sessions. Lake Murray is another La Mesa gem. Surrounded by paved trails and stocked with trout and largemouth bass for fishing, the lake is a favorite destination of San Diego locals. The city boasts more parks and open spaces, including Mission Trails Park and Harry Griffen Regional Park.  La Mesa is also home to fantastic breweries and wineries. Must-tries for craft beer lovers are The Helix Brewing Company and The Bolt Brewery, which serve their own beers in cozy beer gardens and bars. Wine aficionados say the wines produced by the San Pasqual Winery can easily rival those of Napa Valley.
