Living in Del Cerro and San Carlos

While Del Cerro and San Carlos share similar qualities, they are also distinctively different in many ways. Del Cerro is adjacent to San Diego State University, giving it a vibrant college town feel. On the other hand, San Carlos is considered a rural community, surrounded on three sides by the vast Mission Trails Regional Park. The two communities’ proximity to Interstate 8 makes traveling to and from San Diego and beyond easy and convenient. Del Cerro boasts a commercial area along Del Cerro Boulevard where residents of both communities can get essential goods and services. If you’re looking for organic food, Windmill Farms can also be found here, supplying organic farm produce and meats.  Both communities provide residents with plenty of recreational options and amenities. Lake Murray, located on the southwest corner of Del Cerro, is stocked for shore or boat fishing. It also features running, biking, and walking trails. Parks and open spaces in Del Cerro include Princess Del Cerro Park and Del Cerro Park, while in San Carlos, residents go to the San Carlos Community Park and Rec Center and Fletcher Hills Community Center in nearby El Cajon. More outdoor adventures can be found at Mission Trails Regional Park, while cultural and educational events are often staged at San Diego State University. A number of highly rated schools serve both neighborhoods, including Hearst and Marvin Elementary Schools, Gage Elementary, and Pershing Middle School.
