Each of the neighborhoods that make up the region have their own unique vibe and character.  For example, Downtown San Diego is the area’s thriving urban center, featuring a host of offices, shopping centers, restaurants, and cultural destinations. University Heights is a tranquil, mostly residential neighborhood just minutes from the downtown area. College Area, the home of San Diego State University, has a distinctive college town feel, while North Park San Diego is all about hip and eclectic energy. Central San Diego is visited by millions of tourists every year. One of the main draws is Balboa Park, considered the cultural heart of San Diego. This 1,200 acre destination is home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, as well as 17 museums, several gardens, charming shops and restaurants, and intimate performance venues.  There’s an abundance of beaches, with some of the most spectacular ones found in the upscale village of La Jolla, the vibrant Pacific Beach and the resort city of Coronado. Art, culture, and history also define the region. Art galleries are found at practically every corner, and historic districts such as Gaslamp Quarter and Old Town San Diego provide quaint and fun experiences.
